Task paralysis

A task can stall when one part feels unclear or unpleasant. This prompt helps you describe that sticking point and test a workaround without building a whole plan.

Name the blocker

Use when you've been staring at a task and can't say why you're not starting.

I keep avoiding [TASK]. Here is what happens when I try: [WHAT I DO OR FEEL STUCK ON]. Help me name the blocker, step by step. First, reflect the specific sticking point in one sentence, using only what I told you. If it is unclear, ask one question and wait. Once it is clear, suggest one reversible experiment that takes at most five minutes and tests a way around that blocker. State exactly what to do and what result to notice. Do not assume rules or permissions. Ask whether I want to try it, then wait.

Sample input I keep avoiding my expense report. I open the app, then close it because I dread searching for the hotel receipt; the other receipts are ready.

Sample AI reply The hotel receipt search seems to be stopping you from opening the report. Experiment: search your email for the hotel name for up to five minutes, without opening the expense app. Notice whether you find the receipt or need to request a copy. Would you like to try that?
